'...the Places You'll Go!' - for Clarinet and Piano

Inspired by the classic American children's tale by Dr Seuss, this piece was written for clarinettist, Hephzibah Leafe, to mark our three-year anniversary.

 

The music doesn't literally represent the story, but I've always been drawn to the vibrantly coloured illustratations, and the music tries to evoke this sense of colour. The piece is in A major throughout, one of the brightest keys there is, and never modulates. This is coupled with a fast pace, syncopated rhythms, and a lively dialogue between the clarinet and the piano. 

 

This piece was premiered at St Andrews Church, Wirral, on Saturday 14th March, 2015.
